Some reminders:

• Our annual Ziti dinner is Tuesday, December 11th. First grade will be putting together a Tools for School themed raffle basket. If you would like to donate any items, please have them in no later than December 5th. Thank you in advance!!
• The 8th graders will be selling holiday gifts during each lunch wave. The prices range from $0.10 to $8.00.
• The Scholastic Enchanted Forest Book fair will begin this week. Homeroom 162-Mrs.Canalori is scheduled to go on Monday, December 10th. It will be open 5:30-7:00 during the ziti dinner too.

If you send in money with your child to purchase something from the store or the book fair, please place the money in an envelope and write your child's name on the outside and specify if it is for the book fair or store.

English Reading: 

I will be collecting the November reading logs this week. They were handed out in a gallon size zip lock bag with reading books at the end of October. I have attached a new reading log for the month of December. Students can read books, use RAZ kids or Lexia towards the reading log.

We still have a paper shortage. The reading log and practicing the sight words until mastered is English reading homework. I sent home the sight word lists in the beginning of November. If you need another copy, please email me. The more your child reads and practices these words at home, the better reader and writer he/she will become.

I will be sending home math homework this month for homeroom 162. We are starting chapter 5-plane and solid shapes

• Wednesday, November 14th is an early dismissal day. Parent/teacher Conferences will be held 1:00-5:30. Please email me if you are not signed up. 
• Thursday, November 15th is picture retake day. Please email your childs homeroom teacher if he/she will getting their picture taken. 
• Friday, November 16th, is our first town meeting. Prek-1st grade performs at 10:00. We hope to see you there!

Our chapter 2 math test is Friday 10/5/18.

Homeroom 162 will take it in English 

Homeroom 161 will take it in Spanish

Chapter 2 is all about number bonds. (part, part, whole)

Students will be asked to:

• find a missing number
• how many more to make a number
• complete the number bond by looking at a picture

First grade math:

We have finished chapter 1- numbers to 10

Chapter 2-Use a number bond (part, part, whole) to add and subtract numbers

Reading: Continue to practice the weekly sight words in both English and Spanish. This will help your child become a better reader and writer. We are working daily on our early reading strategies.

Some First Grade Reminders:

• Breakfast begins at 8:20. If your child is going to eat breakfast in school, please have him/her arrive at 8:20 to ensure there is enough time to eat. Instruction begins promptly at 8:45.
• Your child will be marked tardy if he/she arrives after 8:35.
• Please label all clothing. We have several sweatshirts that are unclaimed.
• All sweatshirts and sweaters must be blue or your child will be asked to remove it. If a student is not wearing a sweatshirt properly, they will be asked to hang it up.
• Mr. C will be placing all PE uniform orders soon. If you would like to place an order, send in the order form and money tomorrow.
