Chapter 9 Update

Hello Parents!

     We have already finished Chapter 9:  Length!  This chapter covered the following concepts:

  • measuring length using the vocabulary:  long/longest and short/shortest
  • measuring height using the vocabulary:  tall/tallest and short/shortest
  • we compared objects of different lengths and heights to each other to find which was the longest/shortest, etc.
  • we learned to use a start line when comparing objects of different lengths and heights
  • we measured objects using cubes, paper clips, pennies, etc. to see how tall or long they were

 

Our chapter test will be given TOMORROW!!!

     Room 157:  English          Room 158:  Spanish

 

 

Don't forget...this afternoon from 1:00 to 5:00 are conferences!  Mrs. Canalori and I will be meeting with parents by literacy groups.  We have scheduled appointments...if you did not set up an appoinment please call the school to see when we are available today!

Chapter 8 Math Update

Hello Parents!  

     We just finished Chapter 8:  Addition and Subtraction Facts to 20!  In this chapter we have learned:

  •  different ways to add:  by making a 10, by grouping into 10's and 1's, using double facts to add and using double facts plus one.
  • different ways to subtract:  by grouping into a 10 and 1's, and by grouping into a 10 and 1's.
  • real-world problems:  addition and subtraction facts.

Math Homework Tonight

Hello Parents!

      Just a quick note about tonight's math homework.  I'm sorry there are not directions...it was meant to be classwork but we didn't have time to start it today.  Your child is supposed to break down the two digit number into tens and ones.  Then add the ones.  Then add the ten to the ones.

Also the worksheet starts at 5 and ends at number 10...so there is no 1 through 4.

Spelling Words-week of 1/8/18

  • Permission slips for tomorrows field trip should be handed in today. If you are interested in being a chaperone and would like to carpool, please email me. mindy.canalori@new-haven.k12.ct.us

 

  • Friday's spelling test will be given Monday, January 8th. 

Spelling Test #16

We will continue to work on  “bonus” letters (ff, ll, ss) At the end of a one-syllable word, if the word has one vowel that is short and immediately followed by an f, l or s at the end, double the consonant.

Test will be given on Friday, January 12th
