Chapter 8 Math Update

Hello Parents!  

     We just finished Chapter 8:  Addition and Subtraction Facts to 20!  In this chapter we have learned:

  •  different ways to add:  by making a 10, by grouping into 10's and 1's, using double facts to add and using double facts plus one.
  • different ways to subtract:  by grouping into a 10 and 1's, and by grouping into a 10 and 1's.
  • real-world problems:  addition and subtraction facts.

Math Homework Tonight

Hello Parents!

      Just a quick note about tonight's math homework.  I'm sorry there are not directions...it was meant to be classwork but we didn't have time to start it today.  Your child is supposed to break down the two digit number into tens and ones.  Then add the ones.  Then add the ten to the ones.

Also the worksheet starts at 5 and ends at number 10...so there is no 1 through 4.

Math Update...Chapter 7

We just finished Chapter 7:  Numbers to 20!   In this chapter we learned how to:

  • count on from 10
  • make a 10, then count on
  • compare sets of numbers
  • use place value (tens and ones)
  • use place value to find out how much greater or less
  • make patterns with numbers 
  • order numbers from least to greatest and greatest to least

Our chapter test will be given on Tuesday. 

     Room 157:  Spanish

     Room 158:  English

Math Update

Hello Parents!  Today we will be finishing Chapter 5:  Shapes and Patterns.  This chapter we have worked on:

  • identifying plane/2D shapes- name, number of corners and number of sides.

We will skip Chapter 6 (per the district pacing guide):  Ordinal Numbers and Position.   We will cover these skills during our daily math meeting.  We will begin Chapter 7:  Numbers to 7 on Monday.
